I was lost, then found.

Hello

My name is Heidi.  I was a lost mutt that happened to get lucky and wandered to a house with people that took me in and cared for me.

After a few months, Kitty, a visiting family member saw me, and it was love at first sight.  So I ended up going home with Kitty and her husband Kero, and have been with them for almost seven years.

Right after I was moved to my permanent home, they took me to the vet for vaccinations and a check up.  The vet told Kitty and Kero that I was a year to a year and a half, which surprised them because they thought I was a puppy.  He said that I should get spayed.  I got my shots, my heart worm test, and a heartworm vaccine.  The doctor’s visit wasn’t bad, he gave me treats.

The following week, I had to go back to the vet to get spayed.  At first, I didn’t mind going because that was the place that gave me treats.  But I was alarmed when Kitty left me there.  They gave me something that made me sleepy, and when I woke up, I was in a cage.  Kitty came back and I was so happy to see her.  My tummy hurt.  I don’t want to go back to that  place anymore.

After my tummy got better, Kero started running with me every morning.  We would run through the neighborhood, and sometimes to the park.  Its the most exciting part of my day.  I get to see other dogs and critters (bunnies, rats, frogs, snakes, cats, birds, coyotes).  I get so excited when its time for Kero to wake up.  I help him wake up by rubbing my paws on his arms.  And sometimes, I push him a little when he’s getting ready.  Eventually, I start whining and howling if he’s taking his time, which is always.  I think they like it when I do this.  At least Kitty seems amused by my actions.

Besides running, my other favorite part of the day is eating.  My favorite is doggy bacon and ice cream (not together, although that doesn’t sound bad).  Kero found ice cream for dogs called Frosty Paws.  Kero and Kitty won’t give me any people food, besides lettuce and tomatoes.  So I don’t beg anymore when they’re eating.

They’ve taken me hiking and to the beach.  They keep promising to take me camping, but it hasn’t happened yet.

In a couple of weeks, I am going to Colorado with them.  Its the first big trip that I get to go on with them.  We’re going to go hiking everyday.  I can’t wait.  Kitty and Kero have had to do a lot of research on dog friendly activities and accomodations for the trip.  Luckily, I think Colorado gets a lot of tourists who bring their pets to do the many outdoor activities.  So a lot of places are pet friendly.  The Colorado experience will be posted, I thought it might be helpful to other dog owners and dogs.  Hope you come back soon!
